Realistic Expectations

This Ivory-billed Woodpecker quote is found on p. 125 of William Least Heat-Moon’s 1982 travelogue, Blue Highways: a journey into America:
On the highway [in Louisiana], I wished the British had exiled more Acadians to America if only for their cooking. Somewhere lives a bad Cajun cook, just as somewhere must live one last ivory-billed woodpecker. For me, I don’t expect ever to encounter either one.
