This is a view of the backyard as seen from the deck of my recently-purchased home in Berrien County, Michigan, as taken on or around Thanksgiving Day 2007 by the previous owner. I'm looking forward to moving back to the area of my birth sometime in January 2008.

My fascination with birds dates to earliest childhood. Entries in my high school senior yearbook profess my interest in ornithology. Birds and their conservation were the focus of a 33-year career as a professional wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that took me from the westernmost Aleutian Islands to the political intrigue of Washington, D.C. In retirement, birds remain my constant obsession.

YIKES! John, Michigan... I moved away from the Midwest 25+ yrs. ago just to get away from those winters. But, if that's what makes ya happy, then CONGRATULATIONS! May a Snowy Owl or two be in your future.
