Eating Crow

As reported in this editorial in the Charleston Gazette, West Virginia is the only State in the Union with an unrestricted year-long crow hunting season. The Federal government is threatening to withhold $2 million in matching money if the State fails to comply with Federal law by instituting a closed season. Incredibly, the State’s Senate Natural Resources Committee seems ready to call the Feds bluff, apparently believing that protecting “a tradition that’s been going on in these mountains since the beginning of time” (i.e., shooting crows) is worth gambling on the possible forfeiture of $2 million from the pockets of West Virginia taxpayers. In the event that they lose, these legislators can find some delicious recipes for eating crow from the folks at crowbusters.com. The thought just makes your mouth water, doesn't it?
