Anti-Darwinism in Texas

In a commentary in Newsweek about a recent decision by the Texas Board of Education that leaves loopholes for teaching creationism, Christopher Hitchens includes this remark about Ken Mercer, one of the members of the Board:
[He] has said that evolution is disproved by the absence of any transitional forms between dogs and cats.
Come again?

  3. They work hard at it, apparently. Natural selection obviously doesn't select for intelligence.
